As central California enjoys one of the best salmon season’s in years it’s a good reminder of how important the fishery is to commercial fishermen, sportsmen, and the general public. It’s also a reminder to support salmon conservation and restoration efforts in the watersheds they depend on. And as someone who’s worked to restore watersheds and as a commercial fisherman, I’m an advocate for supporting both. The Nature Conservancy is a good example of a stakeholder using science and local knowledge to help guide management both at sea and on land. Here’s a video I produced last summer on some of their restoration efforts along the Garcia River in Mendocino, CA.
